METALQUIMIA and the OCE reinvent “La Sardana”

29.06.2005

METALQUIMIA and the OCE (Orquestra de Cambra de l’Empordà – Emporda Chamber Orchestra) have just promoted a new musical project which, in some way, reinvents “la Sardana” by recording a new CD, “Sardanas for strings”, where string instruments (the violin, viola, cello and contrabass) take on the role of Cobla instruments (the flabiol, tible, tenora, trumpet, trombone, fiscornio and contrabass), to penetrate into a world that is idyllic, happy, and sometimes solemn, easily rivaling the best melodies of classical and romantic music. With this musical work, the Orquestra de Cambra de l’Empordà has reinvented the Sardana (the sound of Catalonia), with a surprising evolution of Cobla to Strings, achieving a magnificent combination of sounds and harmonies that inspire and exalt our best sentiments. The Sardana, with string instruments, is transformed and renewed, rising above local barriers, to acquire a universal dimension, accessible and comprehensible for everyone, and prepared to defy the limits of time. From METALQUIMIA, we sincerely congratulate the Orquestra de Cambra de l’Empordà and all its members for this exceptional work, for this singular passage through the history and excellence of Catalan musical heritage, and also for this unique rendition of the Sardana, which, without doubt, enriches the musical repertory of Catalonia.
